Designed as a safe environment where people can stay for short periods until they can safely access other mental health services, this purpose built 24-hour residential unit offers both high and low dependency units.

The commissioning process on this site was particularly interesting in terms of building security and the fire protection system. One of the requirements was to ensure that patients can’t tamper with the fire system, while still providing full functionality.

Tiaho Mai means “the light that comes from the moon and the stars - shine here", a fitting name for a place which helps people see the light at the end of a dark time.
