Surrounded by Waikato farmland, an innovative new 500 bed facility at Waikeria Prison places prisoner rehabilitation and whānau support at the heart of its ethos with the aim of reducing reoffending. 

This 26-building site will shrug off the old definition of a prison to include a dedicated mental health and addiction service, sports areas and programmed classes. 

Prisoners will have access to better whānau and support networks as more offenders from the region will be able to serve their sentence closer to home. By their nature, prisons require unique requirements, including emergency backup, complex control systems and enhanced security technology. 

A multifaceted building services commissioning project for Pacific, global supply chain pressures added additional challenges to this complicated build.
