With a renowned history as New Zealand’s first skyscraper, Auckland’s Civic Administration Building on the edge of Aotea Square was completed in 1966, becoming the home of local government.
Now reinvented as a high-end apartment building, this iconic modernist building has Category A heritage status under the Unitary Plan, which has added complexity to its redevelopment.
The building was stripped back to its structural steel before being rebuilt and although the CAB looks much the same on the outside, inside has been transformed into contemporary luxury, an award-winning project for the build team.
The rebuild involved intense and complex design requirements, with high specifications. Pacific Commissioning’s role focused on ensuring requirements were met and contractors adhered to the highest level of quality.
